ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team (14-27, 6-9 WAC) will face the Utah Valley Wolverines (27-18, 12-6) in a conference series this weekend, from May 2-4, at Clay Gould Ballpark
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 3-4 over the Wolverines, including a 1-2 record at home.
GAME NOTES
- According to D1Baseball.com, the Mavs currently have the toughest schedule within the Western Athletic Conference with the 17th hardest non-conference schedule in the country, and the 20th hardest overall schedule in the country.
- In the conference series against GCU last weekend, the Mavs blasted 8 homeruns in the series and outscored the preseason conference favorites 26-20.
- In conference play, Joe Steeber currently ranks 12th in ERA, and fifth among starters, with a mark of 3.94 over five starts. The Southlake, Texas native has allowed just two walks over 29.2 innings played in conference play.
- Tyce Armstrong, a native of Conroe, Texas, leads the Mavs in homeruns (10), RBI (34), and total bases (85).
- Ty Zahradnik, a redshirt freshman, ranks 10th in the conference with an ERA of 3.86
- In the series against Tarleton, the Mavericks blasted nine homeruns over the weekend. The nine homeruns are the most in a series since the Mavs jacked nine in a two-game series against Houston in 2023. freshmen Austin Phillips and Cade Dodson put together an excellent week of hitting each averaging .500 over the four victories during the week.
- In conference play, the Mavs pitching staff ranks second in the WAC with an ERA of 4.32, allowing just 40 earned runs over a span of nine conference games. The staff also ranks first in runs allowed (50), home runs allowed (6) and third in hits allowed with (97). The Mavs have also only allowed only 16 walks in conference play, with the next closest team having 30 (Tarleton State).
- Individually in conference play, Xavier Melendez currently sits ninth in the conference with a batting average of .375. The Midland College transfer has put together 24 hits, four homers, four doubles and 23 RBI in eight conference games played.
- Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season. This season, the Mavs have opened up 7-11 at home.
