ARLINGTON, Texas – The 2025 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Saturday and the Mavericks delivered with multiple conference titles and a weekend full of personal records to go and tie UTA's best finish in the WAC championships.
The women finished second overall with 153 total points while the men finished third overall with 148 total points. During the Mavs first stint in the WAC back in 2013, the men finished third while the women finished second. UTA also happened to host the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Abigail Flores kicked off Saturday for the Mavs with a gold medal finish in the women's discus throw. Down to her last throw, the senior reared back and launched it 50.07m to catapult herself into the top spot on the leaderboard. Flores was the lone competitor to reach 50 plus meters in the event.
The Mavs took over in the men's discus throw, with four Mavs finishing in the top eight and picking up a slew of points.
Hayden Wilson picked up his second gold medal, taking the top spot with a throw of 52.60m. Wilson's dominance earned him the WAC Men's Most Outstanding Field Athlete honor.
Logan Villalva's last throw of 48.85m earned him fourth overall in the events while
Austin Nkwoparah's 48.12m placed him sixth overall.
Joey Haws matched his personal record of 47.59m to take the seventh overall in the discus.
Winnie Kipsang continued to showcase herself as a dominant force in the mid-distance events in the conference. She took the gold medal in both the women's 1500m and the women's 800m. In the 1500m, Kipsang defended her title as the reigning champion in the event, finishing with a time of 4:24.28. In the 800m, Kipsang finished with a time of 2:09.79, the only competitor to run under the 2:10 mark. Kipsang won the silver medal in last year's 800m and now has three golds and one silver in her outdoor career.
Adeyemi Talabi added to her medal count on the final day. Picking up a silver medal in the women's long jump yesterday, Talabi would pick up a silver medal in the women's 100m and a bronze medal in the women's 200m. In the 100m, Talabi finished with a new personal record of 11.36 which also moved her in the 32nd fastest in the west region. In the 200m, she finished with a time of 23.56 to pick up six points. Talabi was the lone Mav to pick up three solo medals in the meet.
Alex Kalmar had himself a day, picking up two medals on Saturday. Kalmar finished third in the men's 1500m after running a time of 3:48.36 in his first event of the day. In the men's 800m, Kalmar picked up his second medal of the day, a silver after running a time of 1:51.03. Teammate
Kash Powell picked up the gold medal in the 800m after finishing with a time of 1:50.49. The duo came into the meet as the top two runners for the event in the conference.
Zaire Moore was the fourth Maverick to pick up multiple medals on the final day of the conference championships. She picked up a silver medal in the women's 400m hurdles after running a season's best time of 59.21. Moore's first medal of the day came in the women's 100m hurdles where she picked up a bronze after running a personal best of 13.52. The time also moves her into the 50th fastest time in the west region.
Randon Gray claimed the gold medal in the men's pole vault after a vault of 5.09m which makes Gray your 2025 WAC Indoor and Outdoor Champion. Gray was the only competitor to reach a height of five plus meters. Freshman
Ethan Saenz got his first taste of outdoor conference championship action and did not disappoint, taking home the bronze medal after a vault of 4.99m. Saenz reached the 4.99m mark on his last attempt at that height.
Indyia Walton picked up a bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles, finishing right behind Moore with a time of 1:01.22 which is a new personal record for Walton. She also picked up three points for the Mavs in the women's 100m hurdles after finishing sixth with a season's best time of 13.81.
McKinley Novacek claimed the bronze medal in the women's high jump. Her leap of 1.74m solidified her spot in the top three. Novacek and Tarleton State's Ja'Dasia Sims both jumped 1.74m but Novacek achieved that feat on her second attempt while Sims cleared it on her first attempt that dropped Novacek to third.
Matro Jepkemboi ended the solo events for the Mavs in the women's 5000m. She picked up eight points for UTA and a silver medal for herself after finishing with a time of 16:54.18.
ADDITIONAL POINT SCORERS
- Brady Shadrick finished seventh in the men's javelin with a throw of 56.85m to pick up two points for the Mavs.
- The men's 4x100m relay team (Eli England, Khalid Mendez, Adam Herrera and Malachi Barendilla) finished fourth with a time of 40.14 which is a season's best and moves them into the 35th fastest time in the NCAA DI West Region to pick up five points for the Mavs.
- The women's 4x100m relay team (Zaire Moore, Adeyemi Talabi, Alexis Cain and Madison Pippins) picked up five points for the Mavs after a fourth-place finish with a time of 45.59.
- Adam Herrera ran a season's best 47.61 in the men's 400m which had him finish fifth overall and pick up four points.
- In the women's 400m, Alexis Cain picked up three points for the Mavs after finishing sixth with a time of 55.97.
- Eli England finished seventh with a time of 10.54 for two points while Khalid Mendez finished eighth with a time of 10.58 for one point in the men's 100m dash. England also picked up one point after an eighth-place finish in the men's 200m with a time of 21.34.
- Madison Pippins picked up five points after running a season's best 11.52 in the women's 100m.
- Brady Shadrick picked up two points after a seventh-place finish in the men's javelin with a throw of 56.85m. He also picked up three points in the men's pole vault, finishing sixth with a vault of 4.69m.
- Miles Jones picked up four points in the men's high jump after finishing fifth with a jump of 2.05m. Jonathan Williams picked up one point after placing eighth by matching his season's best mark of 2.00m.
- The men's 4x400m relay team (Eli England, Kash Powell, Adam Herrera and Alex Kalmar) finished fourth with a time of 3:13.86 which is a season's best and picked up five points for the Mavs.
The women's 4x400m relay capped off an incredible three-day event hosted by the Mavericks and the WAC. The team consisting of

Adeyemi Talabi capped off the evening by picking up a bronze medal by finishing with a season's best time of 3:44.95.
