National Head Coaching Search for UTA Flag Football Underway

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington's Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has begun a national search for the first head coach of its women's flag football program, which will begin competition in Spring 2027. Women's flag football at UTA is presented by Mansfield Methodist.

"This is a huge moment for us at UTA," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jon Fagg. "We have an incredible institution and a very attractive opportunity for someone to become the first head coach of our flag football program. We have excellent people who are working very hard on this and have already received a tremendous amount of interest. I am confident that we will find a great leader for this program going forward."

UTA announced in May that it would add women's flag football, becoming just the fifth NCAA Division I university to sponsor the sport — a number that has since grown to seven. UTA also became only the third program in Texas across all levels to establish the sport. Women's flag football, an NCAA emerging sport, is set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

The Mavericks will play their home games at Maverick Stadium. Following the hiring of the head coach, recruiting will begin later this year to assemble UTA's inaugural roster.

Momentum for women's flag football continues to grow nationwide. Fourteen states currently sanction it as a high school varsity sport, and more than 500,000 girls ages 6–17 play the game across the country, supported by the NFL and its partners.
The addition of women's flag football marks the first new sport for UTA since women's golf in 2017–18 and increases the Mavericks' total sport offerings to 16.
