MBB: Mavs Seek Third Straight Win, Host ACU Saturday Afternoon

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (10-5, 2-1 WAC) is looking for its third straight win and fourth in its last five on Saturday afternoon when the Mavs host in-state rival Abilene Christian (10-6, 2-1 WAC) at 2 p.m. at the College Park Center. Tickets to Saturday's game are available here.

The Mavs were led by a historic performance by senior guard Marcell McCreary last time out in an 86-77 win at Southern Utah. McCreary poured in a career-high 39 points on 12-of-16 from the floor and 8-of-11 from distance, equaling the program's fourth-highest scoring output in a single game in program history. ACU enters play coming off two straight WAC wins, including an 84-80 win at Tarleton State on Thursday night in Stephenville.

The Wildcats are led by fifth-year head coach Brette Tanner. Prior to his time as head coach, Tanner spent eight seasons as Associate Head Coach under former ACU and current UTEP head coach Joe Golding. Before that, Tanner was the lead assistant at Stephen F. Austin. Tanner has also been an assistant at South Plains College (2004-06) and was a head coach at both Fort Scott (Kansas) CC and also worked for current Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard as an assistant for two seasons.

Abilene Christian is led by senior forward Bradyn Hubbard, who is averaging a team-high 15.9 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Senior guard Rich Smith (9.4 ppg and 4.3 apg) is also a key fixture for the Wildcats thus far this season.

Saturday's meeting between UTA and ACU will be the 35th all-time, with the Wildcats holding a 23-11 advantage, including three of the past five dating back to 2023.

UTA is led by a pair of seniors in McCreary (14.3 ppg and 5.0 rpg) and forward Raysean Seamster (13.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg). They'll need both to perform at a high level on Saturday afternoon as the Mavs have their eyes on a share of the top spot in the WAC standings.
