COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team hit the road for its first matchup of the spring, a bout against the No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies . The Mavericks (0-1) were swept 7-0 by their Southeastern Conference foe. The match victory moved Texas A&M (2-0) to 9-0 all time against the Mavericks.
In doubles action, the Aggie duo of Togan Tokac and Khololwam Montsi picked up the victory on court 1 over the UTA pairing of Saul Berdullas and
Yazid Lahjomri by a score of 6-4. The Mavericks court 2 duo of Axel Delva and
Finbar McGarvey pushed the Aggie team of Ethan Silva and Lathan Skrobarcek, but still ultimately fell 7-5.
Singles action also went Texas A&M's way. The Aggies first picked up a win on court 5 when Silva defeated UTA's Ellison Minnaar in straight sets. Silva's 6-0, 6-4 victory gave Texas A&M a 3-0 lead. Tokac clinched the match for the Aggies shortly after on court 2, knocking off Berdullas 6-1, 6-0.
Skrobarcek kept things rolling for Texas A&M, knocking off Delva 6-2, 6-1 on court 4, before Tiago Pires defeated Lahjomri 6-4, 6-1 on court 1 to put the Aggies ahead 6-0. Kriish Tyagi's straight set victory over McGarvey on court 3 finished off the sweep for Texas A&M. Tyagi defeated the UTA sophomore 6-2, 6-2.
The Mavericks will get a week off before another road matchup against a power conference opponent in Oklahoma State. The match is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
