ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's tennis competed in its first dual match of the spring, hosting the Big 12's Houston Cougars. Houston (5-0) took down the Mavericks (0-1) 4-0, making it back-to-back years with a sweep of UTA. The Mavericks lead the all-time series 6-4.

The Cougars got off to a fast start in doubles play. Houston's top pairing of Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli knocked off UTA's duo of Vanja Cado and Elizaveta Mladentseva 6-2. The Cougar's Court 2 duo of Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina knocked off the Mavericks Sofia Selle and Diana Kaibara to help secure the point for Houston.

In singles action, Cado fell in straight sets to Houston's Elizaveta Morozova on Court 1. Krokhotina grabbed another point for the Cougars, besting Flora Farkaslaki 6-1, 6-1 on Court 5. Alexia Lavinia Puiac also picked up a singles win for Houston, defeating Natalia Gonzalez in an all-freshman match on Court 2. Those three victories secured the dual win for Houston. The remaining three singles matches were left unfinished.

The Mavericks previously scheduled matchup against UTRGV that was set for 11 a.m. Saturday was canceled due to expected inclement weather and will not be made up. UTA will be back in action against Elon at 10 a.m. Monday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
