CEDAR CITY, Utah – UT Arlington women's basketball (8-11, 2-5 WAC) hits the road for a midweek WAC matchup at Southern Utah (13-7,5-3 WAC) in Cedar City. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. local) on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the America First Events Center.
UTA has controlled the series historically, owning a 7-1 all-time edge over the Thunderbirds. The Lady Mavs have also been perfect in Cedar City (3-0), with every road meeting against SUU ending in a UTA win. Southern Utah snapped UTA's run in the most recent meeting, slipping out of Arlington with a 58-55 win on Jan. 3, 2026. The first SUU victory in the series after seven straight UTA wins dating back to 2004.
The Lady Mavs are paced by Kira Reynolds, who leads in scoring (11.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg) while also setting the tone defensively with 55 blocks (2.9 bpg). Nya Threatt runs the offense at 3.0 assists per game and chips in 8.9 points while leading the team in steals (21). On the perimeter, Kali Haizlip has been UTA's top three-point threat with 28 triples while shooting 43.8% from deep.
As a team, the Lady Mavs have protected the paint (5.0 blocks per game) and have been elite at running teams off the arc, holding opponents to .235 from three. Through 19 games on the season, this is the top mark in the conference and the second best mark in the nation.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UTAH
Southern Utah has been efficient offensively, scoring 73.4 points per game while shooting 41.8% from the field as a team. Individually, the Thunderbirds are paced by: Sierra Chambers, 15.5 ppg (also 3.5 apg), Ava Uhrich, 13.0 ppg and 10.3 rpg, and Brooklyn Fely, 11.3 ppg and 8.2 rpg.
