MIDLAND, Texas – UT Arlington men's golf wrapped up its third tournament of the season Tuesday, finishing on a high note with its second round in a row below par as a team at the Tall City Collegiate. The Mavericks finished 6th overall after posting a 284 as a team in the final round.
Ajay Morris finished as the Mavericks' leader of the pack, carding a final-round, 1-under-par 71 to maintain his hold on a spot in the top 10. The sophomore made par or better on 16 holes in the third round, and bogeyed just three of his final 36 holes at the tournament.
Morris overcame a 2-over 74 in the first round to finish below par for the second tournament in a row, a feat he accomplished three times during his freshman campaign. All told, the Avondale, Arizona native finished tied for 10th individually with a 4-under 212 overall.Â
While Morris ended the tournament as the top finisher overall, Joey Hayden paced UTA in the final round. The Santa Clara transfer posted his first round in the 60's as a Maverick, recording a birdie on four holes en route to a 3-under 69, the best final round among Mavericks.
