Mavericks Fall 8-3 at Northwestern State in Game Two
NATCHITOCHES, La. – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to Northwestern State, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Field.
UTA broke through first in the fourth inning when
Zach Mazoch drove in
Xavier Melendez with an RBI single. Northwestern State answered in the bottom half, capitalizing on a throwing error to tie the game at 1-1.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the sixth as Mazoch delivered again with an RBI single before another run scored on a Northwestern State fielding error. The Demons responded immediately with a two-run home run to even the game, then pulled away in the seventh with a five-run inning highlighted by a two-RBI single from Brooks Leonard and a two-run double from Colton Harrison.
Mazoch led the Maverick offense with a three-hit day and two RBI, while Melendez and
Caylon Dygert each recorded a hit and scored a run. UTA finished with seven hits and left 12 runners on base.
PITCHING PROFILE
Ty Zahradnik made the start and worked 5.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out three.
Danny Valadez took the loss after surrendering three runs in the sixth, and
Zach Evans logged the final two innings with two strikeouts.
