MBB: UTA Drops 78-73 Decision to Southern Utah

Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (14-11, 6-7 WAC) fell to Southern Utah (9-17, 5-8 WAC) by a 78-73 count on Saturday afternoon in the 200th all-time game at College Park Center.

In a tight battle throughout, the Mavericks trailed by just four, 65-61, with 2:48 remaining. However the Thunderbirds went on an 8-0 run over the next minute and a half to put the game out of reach.

"We've got to fight," head coach KT Turner said following the game. "We've got to stay together. I still believe in this team. There's a lot of basketball left, and we can definitely make a run."

The Mavericks were outrebounded by 10, 38-28, and outshot 53.8 percent (28-for-52) to 40.7 percent (24-for-59).

UTA maintained a 27-25 lead with 4:33 left in the first half, but the Thunderbirds closed the stanza with a 9-2 spurt to take a 34-29 advantage into intermission. The Mavs made just 34.6 percent of their shots in the opening half (9 of 26). Southern Utah was 15-for-26 (57.7 percent) but had 10 turnovers.

The Mavs remain at home Thursday, Feb. 19, when UTA faces Utah Tech (15-11, 8-4 WAC) at 7 p.m. It will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and on the radio on the Varsity Network App with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours.
