Women's Tennis prepping for midweek tilt with North Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's tennis is looking to bounce back after an 0-2 weekend with a midweek match against the North Texas Mean Green. The Mavericks meet North Texas at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the UTA Tennis Center.

UTA (2-5) is coming off a pair of losses — the first to SMU and the second to Louisiana Tech — that each came by a score of 7-0. Despite the losses, the Mavericks did have some encouraging matches to build off of in singles play.

Three of UTA's six matchups against Louisiana Tech went to a decisive third set, with the Mavericks coming up just short in all of them. No match was closer than Court 5 where Natalia Gonzalez traded 7-5 victories in the first two sets with the Bulldogs' June Vigneron before a close 10-7 loss in the final set.

Gonzalez battled hard against SMU's Natalie Stasny as well, winning the first set 6-1 before falling in the final two. Diana Kaibara and Sofia Selle won the second set of their bouts against Louisiana Tech on Court 2 and Court 3 respectively, before also dropping the decisive third set.

Wednesday's match against UNT will be the 28th in series history. UTA currently holds the edge in the series 15-12 and has won four of the last five matches against the Mean Green.

Scouting North Texas
The Mean Green enter their matchup against the Mavericks at an even 4-4. UNT faced Louisiana Tech this past Monday — a day after the Bulldogs faced UTA — and Louisiana Tech outlasted the Mean Green 4-3. UNT rebounded with a 4-0 sweep of Weatherford College in the afternoon.

UTA and the Mean Green also share common opponents in TCU and Houston. Both teams lost each match 4-0. Lou Chalard and Pia Petelinsek have been among UNT's most successful players in dual matches this spring. Chalard sits at 3-1 across courts one and two while Petelinsek is 4-1 playing at least one match on courts 2-5.

Live stats for the match can be followed along here.
