Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UT Arlington men's basketball (15-13, 7-9 WAC) lost 68-56 at California Baptist (20-8, 10-5 WAC) on Thursday night at the Fowler Events Center as the Lancers improved to 13-0 at home this season.
CBU used an 18-4 run in just over five minutes, aided by four made 3-point field goals, to turn a tie game (18-18) into a 36-22 Lancers' advantage. The Mavericks trailed by 13, 40-27, at halftime after making just 10 of 28 shots (35.7 percent).
Twice in the second half, the Mavs cut the lead to a two-possession game but could get no closer than six points. With CBU leading 50-44, the Lancers created separation by scoring the next nine points. CBU made 8 of 20 threes against the Mavs, who entered the game as the nation's best 3-point defense.
Cash Chavis had a team-high 15 points and shared the team lead with six rebounds. He was 2-for-2 from 3-point range, but the rest of the team was 1-for-15.
Marcell McCreary added 10 points and six boards.
California Baptist won the season series, two games to one despite UTA leading the rebounding battle all three times against the league's top rebounding team.
The Mavs return to action next Thursday, March 5, at Tarleton State (14-15, 5-11 WAC). That game tips off at 7 p.m. CT from the EECU in Stephenville, Texas, and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and on the radio on the Varsity Network App with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours.
