ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's returned to the court for the first time since Feb. 8, falling in its home bout against the Wichita State Shockers 4-0. The Mavericks put forth strong efforts in singles play, but weren't able to make them count before Wichita State secured the win.

UTA started the match off strong in doubles play. The Mavericks Court 1 duo of Yazid Lahjomri and Ellison Minnaar picked up a 6-4 victory over the Shockers pairing of Pablo Roche Alcaya and Zaid Al Mashni .

Wichita State rallied, however, with Ilias Worthington and Rodrigo Cruz picking up a win on Court 2 over Saúl Berdullas Calviño and Finbar McGarvey. UTA did not have a doubles team on Court 3, giving the Shockers the win and the point in doubles play.

The Mavericks also did not have a player on Court 6 in singles play, making it 2-0 Wichita State. UTA didn't go down quietly, however. On Court 1 and Court 2, Lahjomri and Berdullas Calviño respectively won the first set of their matchups. 

While Lahjomri upended Worthington 6-4, Berdullas Calviño went to tiebreakers against Al Mashni, the ITA's No. 103 ranked singles player in the country. Al Mashni and Berdullas Calviño went back and forth, but it was Berdullas Calviño who broke through, picking up a big 7-6 (11-9) win in the opening set.

The final margins of the first set on the top four courts were all within two games, but the Mavericks ultimately couldn't secure a point. Novak Ivanovic lost his bout against Luke Bracks on Court 5 and Minnaar's defeat at the hands of Roche Alcaya on Court 4 clinched the match for the Shockers.

UTA will get a chance to bounce back against the Lamar Cardinals at 11 a.m. Sunday. The match will be played at the UTA Tennis Center. Live stats for the match can be found here.
