LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UT Arlington softball team earned a split in Friday's doubleheader at NM State Softball Complex, opening the day with a 6-1 win over UMass Lowell before falling 11-9 to New Mexico State in the nightcap.
UTA finished with nine runs on the night and showed power throughout the lineup, led by Mia McNulty, who recorded two extra-base hits, including a double and a home run, while driving in three runs. Marley Neises also turned in a strong performance at the plate, going two-for-four with a triple and an RBI.
The Mavericks struck first in the second inning, sending five runs across the plate, highlighted by McNulty's three-run home run. UTA later extended its lead to 8-5 in the fourth inning before the Aggies answered back with late runs.
UTA added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI triple from Neises, but the Mavericks were unable to close the gap in the final frame.
