UTA Falls in Tight Battle Against NM State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UT Arlington softball team earned a split in Friday's doubleheader at NM State Softball Complex, opening the day with a 6-1 win over UMass Lowell before falling 11-9 to New Mexico State in the nightcap.
 
UTA finished with nine runs on the night and showed power throughout the lineup, led by Mia McNulty, who recorded two extra-base hits, including a double and a home run, while driving in three runs. Marley Neises also turned in a strong performance at the plate, going two-for-four with a triple and an RBI.

The Mavericks struck first in the second inning, sending five runs across the plate, highlighted by McNulty's three-run home run. UTA later extended its lead to 8-5 in the fourth inning before the Aggies answered back with late runs.

UTA added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI triple from Neises, but the Mavericks were unable to close the gap in the final frame.

GAME NOTES
» UT Arlington's power output was led by McNulty, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed five runs across.
» McNulty stole two bases in Friday's game.
» The Mavericks swiped five bases as a team.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 34 New Mexico State hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out three.
» The Mavericks drew four walks from New Mexico State pitching.
» McNulty led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
» New Mexico State was led offensively by Faith Aragon, who went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
» Jaileen Mancha led the Aggies pitching staff, throwing 3.2 innings of one-run ball.
