UT Arlington leads from second inning on in 6-1 victory against UMass Lowell

LAS CRUCES, NM --The UT Arlington Mavericks took a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 6-1 victory against the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Friday.

Madi McDonnell (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for UT Arlington (1-0). The sophomore right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Freshman Hailey Lynn Sralik also made an impact in the circle for the Mavericks, throwing two shutout innings while allowing one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. UT Arlington's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Marley Neises.

The Mavericks then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the River Hawks cut it to 4-1. Talia Maldonado came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington, which brought the Mavericks lead to 5-1.

UT Arlington held UMass Lowell without a run before building their lead to 6-1 in the sixth inning. The score remained 6-1 for the rest of the game, as UT Arlington coasted to the win.

GAME NOTES

» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed four runs across.
» The Mavericks had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the River Hawks 4-0 in the bottom of the second.
» The Mavericks out-hit the River Hawks at a 6-4 clip.
» Maldonado stole two bases in Friday's game.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 26 UMass Lowell hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and five fly balls while striking out three.
» Neises led the Mavericks at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
» UMass Lowell was led offensively by J. Rowley, who went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
» O. DeCitise led the River Hawks pitching staff, throwing six innings of six-run ball.
