ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's tennis fell in its home bout with the Tarleton State Texans 4-1. The match was the first of two the Mavericks are slated to play this weekend.

UTA's (3-9) lone point came on singles Court 6. Freshman Tasnime Ahamout defeated Tarleton's Duru Kuscu in straight sets to score a point. The Texans (9-5) took victories on singles Court 1, Court 3 and Court 4. No singles matches went to a decisive third set.

Tarleton also won the doubles point, claiming its wins on courts one and two. UTA, for its part, turned in competitive showings on the three tilts that were left unfinished. 

Elizaveta Mladentseva battled the Texans' Aya Ishii on singles Court 2. Ishii entered the match with a 10-2 record in singles play during dual matches and a 7-1 mark on Court 2, but it was Mladentseva who had the upper hand early. 

The graduate student defeated Ishii in tiebreakers 7-3 to take the first set. The second set was also a dead heat, Ishii leading 4-3 before the match was left unfinished. 

On Court 5, Natalia Gonzalez also won the first set of the matchup, knocking off Tarleton's Marissa Minetti 6-4. Gonzalez trailed 5-4 before the match came to a close in the second set.

Gonzalez and Ahamout also teamed up on Court 3 during doubles play against Maria Castano and Kuscu. The Texans pairing of Castano and Kuscu led 5-4 by the time doubles play ended. 

The Mavericks will have a short turnaround, hitting the road to face the Texas State Bobcats at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in San Marcos. The match will have live scoring available on Statbroadcast.
