ARLINGTON, Texas -- After this weekend of tournament play, freshman
Valeria Feeney has earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
Feeney was a consistent offensive force throughout the Birds Up Bash in San Antonio, hosted by UTSA, recording multiple hits in three of five contests while delivering in key moments.
She opened the weekend by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in an 8-0 run rule victory over Saint Francis. Later that day, against North Dakota, Feeney delivered a pivotal two-run double in the third inning to extend UTA's lead to 4-0 and finished with two RBIs in a one-run contest.
On Saturday against North Dakota, she reached base in three of four plate appearances, tallying one hit and drawing two walks. She followed that performance with another 2-for-3 outing against New Mexico State, adding a double and a run scored while leading the Mavericks offensively.
Feeney capped off the weekend in dominant fashion in an 11-4 road win at UTSA on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run, a double and two RBIs. Her production helped UTA post 11 runs on 13 hits in the victory.
