ABILENE, Texas – UT Arlington women's golf wrapped up the first day of its third tournament of the spring, using an improved second round to finish with a solid showing in day one. The Mavericks sit in sixth place out of a 16-team field going into the third and final round. 

UTA finished with scores of 298 and 292 over the first two rounds for a 30-over-par 590 in total.

Three Mavericks ended day one inside the top 30, including Tarini Bhoga. The sophomore was the Mavericks top finisher of the day, sitting in a tie for 16th place with a 4-over 144 through two rounds.

Bhoga's day was highlighted by a 1-over-par 71 in the opening round in which she birdied three holes. The Frisco native had a bogey-free front nine, recording par on every hole except for the seventh, which she birdied.

Just two strokes behind Bhoga was Kamri Gabel. Gabel carded a 2-over 72 in the second round — the lowest on the team — to finish 6-over for the day, putting her in a tie for 25th place. The senior birdied five holes in the first round, the most in any round for a Maverick on day one.

Coming off her best leaderboard finish of the season at the Texas Golf Throwdown, Nirjara Gulhane finished day one in a tie for 30th, turning in a pair of 4-over 74's in the first two rounds. The junior parred 13 holes in the second round and needs to finish better than 40th for her best placement of the season.

Carmen Gonzalez Lo-A-Njoe opened up the day with an 11-over 81, but improved her score by eight strokes in round two. That shot the junior 17 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 56th going into the final day of competition.

Wrapping the action up for UTA was Chandler Browning who sits in a tie for 66th. The redshirt senior finished with a 16-over 156.

The final round of the West Texas Classic begins with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Abilene Country Club – North Course in Abilene. FOLLOW ALONG
