FORT WORTH, Texas – The UT Arlington track & field team finished the second day of competition at the TCU Alumni Invitational with 13 top-three finishes. The UTA men captured first place with 121 points. The UTA women earned third place as a team with 62.5 points. Together, the men and women bested teams such as Oklahoma, North Texas, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State and SMU.
The day started off with
Abigail Perez and
Toby Eaton earning first place finishes in the 1500m races with personal best times. Perez clocked in a time of 18:04.06, while Eaton finished in 14:43.24).
Continuing long distance events,
Emilia Mandl and
Alex Kalmar earned second place in the 1500m runs. Mandl posted a new personal best time of 4:29.68, while Kalmar posted a time of 3:48.48.
In the 400m, senior
Alexis Cain placed second (54.04) and freshman
Jayden Haynes placed third with a personal best time of 47.44.
Kayan Green earned third in the women's 800m in 2:11.95 and
Devin Payne earned second in the men's 400mH with a personal best time of 53.56.
In the field events,
Hayden Wilson placed third in men's shot put (16.63m), while Abisayo Gbakino placed second in the men's triple jump (15.51m).
The Mavericks took over the top spots in the steeplechase events with
Kellen Frickel taking gold (6:01.56) and
Kebede Kerlin following behind him with silver (6:11.88).
Justina Lusby also placed second in the women's steeplechase (7:49.89).
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will head to Waco next weekend (March 27-28) for the Clyde Hart Classic, hosted by Baylor.
