Dygert Earns National Recognition as Semifinalist for John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

ARLINGTON, Texas – In an era when specialization has become the norm in college baseball, UT Arlington junior Caylon Dygert has made his mark by mastering two of the game's most demanding roles.

Dygert has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, as presented by the College Baseball Foundation. The honor recognizes the nation's top two-way player and carries the name of National College Baseball Hall of Famer John Olerud, who dominated as both a pitcher and first baseman at Washington State in the late 1980s.

The Magnolia, Texas native has shouldered one of the heaviest workloads in college baseball this season, anchoring UTA's pitching rotation through 10 starts and 60.0 innings while appearing in 25 games at first base and batting in the heart of the Mavericks' lineup.

On the mound, Dygert has been UTA's most dependable arm, striking out 39 hitters while posting a 3.30 ERA. His most commanding performance came in a road victory over No. 8 Arkansas, when he delivered a dominant outing against one of the nation's premier programs to help secure one of the biggest wins in program history.

At the plate and in the field, Dygert has been equally valuable. He is hitting .241 with 20 hits, including four doubles, a triple and two home runs, while driving in 14 runs and posting a .343 on-base percentage. Defensively, he has been nearly flawless at first base with a .995 fielding percentage while turning 16 double plays.

The John Olerud Award is one of the most prestigious honors for two-way players in college baseball.
