Mavericks Head to Abilene Christian for WAC Series

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks continue Western Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Abilene Christian. The series opens Friday at 6 p.m. at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark.

UTA enters the weekend at 15-23 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while Abilene Christian comes in at 19-21 and 2-4 in the WAC. The Mavericks will look to build on their momentum after Sunday's dramatic walk-off home run victory over Sacramento State.

GAME NOTES
UT Arlington's lineup is led by Xavier Melendez, who enters the series hitting .375 with 57 hits, eight doubles, five home runs and 32 RBIs, posting a .526 slugging percentage across 36 starts. Harold Laracuente adds a .304 average with 41 hits, 12 doubles, a triple and a team-high 33 runs scored out of the leadoff spot, while Xander McAfee is batting .254 with 35 hits, eight doubles, six home runs and 31 RBIs.

Behind them, Hank Harp is hitting .327 with 16 hits across 17 games, and Preston Knott contributes a .245 average with 27 hits, six doubles, two triples, a home run and 11 RBIs. Austin Phillips adds a .242 average with 29 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs, while Noah Fields has posted a .225 average with 23 hits, five doubles and three home runs, giving the Mavericks depth throughout the order as they head into conference play.

On the mound, Danny Valadez leads the staff with a 2.35 ERA across seven appearances, totaling 15.1 innings with 18 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .196 average. Merek Sears continues to provide steady work out of the bullpen with a 2.83 ERA over 17 appearances, working 35.0 innings with 32 strikeouts and two saves. Kyle Winkler has posted a 3.09 ERA over nine appearances with three wins, while Caylon Dygert anchors the rotation with a 3.30 ERA over 10 starts, working 60.0 innings with 39 strikeouts.
