WACO, Texas – Baylor defeated UT Arlington 6-2 on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark in a game that was called after six innings due to a lightning delay.
The Mavericks took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Xavier Melendez drove in
Harold Laracuente with a groundout. UTA added another run in the third when Melendez reached on a fielder's choice, plating Laracuente to make it 2-0.
Baylor answered with two runs in the second on Dylan Perez's two-run single and seized control with three runs in the third inning. Former Maverick
Tyce Armstrong started the rally with a solo home run, and the Bears added two more runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Armstrong, now playing for Baylor, added another solo shot in the sixth inning before the game was halted due to lightning and eventually called.
Laracuente and
Hank Harp each recorded two hits for the Mavericks, who finished with five hits on the night.
PITCHING PROFILE
Dylan Skolfield worked 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout.
Landon Murphy took the loss gaving up three runs on three hits over 1.1 innings.
Charlie Giese pitched 2.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout.
