Outstanding Student-Athlete, Coach, and Administrator Diane Seymour Retires After Nearly 30 Years at UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas – After nearly three decades of dedicated service to UT Arlington Athletics and its student-athletes, Diane Seymour has announced her retirement from the department.

Seymour, who began her coaching career at UTA in 1996, was elevated to Head Coach in 2004 and recorded a 211-195 record. She led the Mavericks to two regular season championships, two Southland Conference Tournament titles and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. Seymour went on to serve as an Athletic Academic Coach and became a trusted mentor, advocate, and resource for countless Maverick student-athletes throughout her tenure.

"Diane Seymour's impact on UTA Athletics is truly extraordinary," said Jon Fagg, UTA Director of Athletics. "She has left a legacy at this university as a student-athlete, championship-winning coach, and trusted academic mentor. Diane helped build one of the premier volleyball programs in Southland Conference history and later devoted nearly three decades to supporting the academic and personal success of our student-athletes. Her passion for UTA, her leadership and the genuine care she showed for others have influenced generations of Mavericks. We are incredibly grateful for everything Diane has meant to this department and university."

As a player on the volleyball team, she helped the winningest program in Southland Conference history with six straight SLC titles, eight championships in 11 years, and six consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. She was named senior team captain and helped UTA climb to fifth in the national polls and advanced to four Final Fours.

Seymour ended her UTA playing career with 48 kills, 95 service aces and 433 digs in 119 matches and 313 games. She also led UTA to records of 28-4,29-10, 32-7 and 30-4.

"It has been an honor to work with so many incredible student-athletes, coaches and colleagues over the years," Seymour said. "UTA Athletics has truly been family to me, and I will always cherish the memories and relationships that made this journey so special."

Seymour is known for her passion, competitiveness, and as a lifelong Coach who dedicated her career to UTA. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she impacted during her distinguished career.
