ABILENE, Texas – Tasnime Ahamout and Diana Kaibara each earned quarterfinal victories Friday to lead the UT Arlington women's tennis team on the opening day of the ACU Invite.
Kaibara secured a hard-fought 6-7, 7-5 (10-8) victory over Texas Tech's Teodora Prisadnikova in Flight A, while Ahamout advanced with a 6-1, 3-6 (11-9) win against Tarleton State's Marissa Minetti in Flight C. Both Mavericks earned spots in Saturday's semifinals.
Freshman Maria Isabel Suarez also advanced to the semifinals in her collegiate debut, recording 6-4 and 6-0 victories over Texas State's Julia Richardet in Flight D.
Flora Farkaslaki was edged by Texas State's Avery Arant, 6-4, 7-6 (8-10), in her quarterfinal match, while Sofia Selle fell to North Texas' Maya Chen, 5-7, 4-6. Vanja Cado concluded singles play with a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Tarleton State's Nuria Lafitte Valls in Flight D.
Kaibara, Ahamout and Suarez will begin semifinal competition Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. CT.
In doubles action earlier Friday, the Flight A pairing of Selle and Ahamout fell to North Texas' Ujin Batsukh and Maya Chen, 1-9. In Flight B, Cado and Kaibara dropped a 4-6 decision in their quarterfinal match.
The duo of Farkaslaki and Suarez also suffered a 2-6 loss to ACU's Che Nel and Julia Ionescu.

Day 2 of the ACU Invite begins Saturday at 9 a.m. CT with doubles competition, followed by singles play.
