Legend Barrett

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant

Legend Barrett is in his second season as a Graduate Assistant with the University of Texas at Arlington men’s basketball program. In his role, Barrett assists the coaching staff with player development, with an emphasis on post-player instruction and individual workouts, while also supporting team operations and the day-to-day logistics of the program.

Prior to arriving at UTA, Barrett spent the 2024-25 season as a Graduate Assistant at Northeastern State University. During his time with the RiverHawks, he helped guide one of the top three scoring offenses in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), averaging 78.1 points per game. Barrett played an integral role in the development of two All-MIAA selections, including conference scoring leader Trey Phipps and rebounding leader Ethan Blackmon.

His contributions helped Northeastern State return to the MIAA Tournament and highlighted a season that featured regular-season sweeps of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State, along with a signature victory over then-No. 1-ranked Washburn on Feb. 15.

As a student-athlete, Barrett began his collegiate career at Texas College during the 2019-20 season before spending four seasons at Oklahoma Baptist University from 2021-24. At OBU, he earned Great American Conference Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors and was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He graduated in May 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Human Performance.

Barrett is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science while continuing to develop his coaching career with the Mavericks.
