COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas-Arlington freshman Klara Jagosova contined her impressive run through the fall season as she advanced to the quarterfinals of women's singles to lead the Mavericks in the ITA Regionals at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Jagosova (Prerov, Czech Republic) opened tournament play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Texas Tech's Cigdem Duru. She then preceded to beat Texas' Kelly Baritot, 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. There she faced fourth-seeded Carolin Walter of Baylor, who is also ranked 29th in the nation. Jagosova defeated Walter, 7-6, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. She went up against another Baylor player in 12th-seeded Zuzana Cerna. Cerna defeated the freshman in a three-set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Also competing for the Mavericks were senior Anete Rozkalne and junior Monika Peciulionyte and Marissa Brown.

Rozkalne (Riga, Latvia) lost in the opening round to 21st-ranked Helena Besovic from Baylor, 6-1, 6-4. In the consolation bracket she withdrew against Tulane's Carina Bjornstrom.

Brown (Arlington, Texas) lost in the opening round to Houston's Kami Miller, 6-4, 6-4. In the consolation bracket, she defeated Northwestern State's Magali Van den Bergh, 6-1, 6-4, in the opening round, before falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Erika Iriarte, 6-2, 1-6, 10-6.

In doubles play, Jagosova teamed up with Rozkalne to defeat Melanie Bowers and Antoinette Majors of Prairie View A&M, 8-0. They then defeated Southeastern Louisiana's Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac, 8-5. In the round of 16, the Maverick team fell to fifth-seeded Blair Diesa and Alanna Rogers of Rice, 8-4.

The Mavericks will be back in action Friday when they travel to take part in the Cougar Invitational in Houston, Texas. The three-day event will run through Sunday.
