GEE TOSSES FOUR-HIT SHUTOUT AGAINST #12 BAYLOR

April 12, 2005

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - Freshman right-hander Dillon Gee looked nearly unhittable Tuesday evening as the Cleburne product allowed just four hits in a complete-game shutout over No. 12 Baylor at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Gee (4-3) allowed just one single in the second, fourth, sixth and ninth innings and did not allow a Bear to get passed second base. He also got some great defensive help in the outfield from center fielder Joe Newman as he ended the first inning with a sliding catch in left center field and began the third inning with a highlight-reel full-extension diving catch to take a double away in the third inning.

The Mavs (20-17) got on the board in the third inning as Brock Wilson drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Nathan Warrick plated the run with a single back through the box.

UTA added a run in the third inning as Brett Lewis blooped a two-out single into right field. Aaron Batlle followed with a grounder to short that was thrown away by Paul Witt allowing runners to advance to second and third. With a two-strike count on the next hitter, BU reliever Jeff Mandel balked to allow a run to score.

Lewis led the Mavs offense with a pair of hits, while Warrick extended his hit-streak to 10 games with his RBI single in the third.

The Bears (22-13) offense came from the top of their order as cleanup hitter Zach Dillon collected two hits, while Kyle Reynolds and Josh Ford each had one.

Andy Pape (1-2) took the loss as he allowed one run on two hits in three innings of work. Two other Bears relievers combined to allow one unearned run on five hits the remainder of the game.

The Mavs return to action this weekend as they take to the road for a Southland Conference series at Texas-San Antonio on April 15-17. The series will get underway at 3 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.

NOTES: UTA President James Spaniolo threw out tonight's ceremonial first pitch. Last season, his first at UTA, Spaniolo threw out the first pitch in the Mavs 1-0 victory over Oklahoma State.
