TCU OUTSLUGS MAVS 12-3

May 3, 2005

Box Score

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU shortstop Stuart Musslewhite went 3-for-3 with five RBIs as the No. 28 Horned Frogs scored seven times in the first two innings in cruising to a 12-3 victory over Texas-Arlington Tuesday evening at Lupton Stadium.

UTA (24-25) got on the board in the first inning as Nathan Warrick started the game with a single through the left side. After a Brett Lewis sacrifice bunt and a walk to Aaron Batlle, Boomer Welles slow roller to third was thrown down the right field line allowing both runners to score.

TCU (32-14) answered in the home half of the inning as Musslewhite walked and Shelby Ford singled before Chad Huffman drove in a run with a single up the middle.

The Mavs added a run in the second inning as Alex Schenck hit a two-out double to right field and scored on Warrick's single through the right side.

The Frogs made sure that the Mavs would not lead again as they responded with a six-run second inning. TCU got six hits in the inning with an RBI double from Andrew Walker, a two-run double from Musslewhite, a two-run single from Keith Conlon and a run-producing single from Matt McGuirk.

TCU starter Sam Demel (4-4) settled in after the second inning and allowed only two hits over the next five innings. He left the game after the seventh after allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits with nine strikeouts.

UTA starter Michael Gardner (3-6) settle down after the long second inning and did not allow a hit over the next two innings before the Frogs touched him up for three more runs in the fifth inning. Gardner finished the game by allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits in five innings of work.

In the fifth, Walker had his second RBI double of the game and following a hit batter, Musslewhite produced his second two-run double of the evening.

The Mavs would go to the bullpen and Jeremiah Haar allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work.

Warrick was the only Mav to collect more than one hit as the team collected only seven. Boomer Welles extended his hit-streak to 11 games with a solid single to right in the ninth.

UTA will take 10 days off before returning to the diamond on Friday the 13th as they open up a three-game Southland Conference series against Southeastern Louisiana. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
