FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Diego Mattar claimed two wins at the ITA Regional Tennis Tournament at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center here Sunday.
Mattar defeated Bryan Wooten of Texas A&M (6-3, 6-4) and Jay Wofford of Texas Tech (6-2, 6-2) before losing to Filip Kanszula of Lamar, 6-3, 7-5.
The UT Arlington women's double team of Sara Pesic and Daniela Novakova captured the consolation championship at the ITA Regional Tennis Tournament at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center here Sunday.
Pesic and Novakova rebounded from a second-round loss to sixth-seed Sarah Lancaster and Courtney Zaulft of Texas to win their next four matches to claim the title. They defeated Julia Cirne-lima and Stephanie Willering of Texas-Pan American, 8-2, LSU's Anastaslya Dubora and Tiffany Tucker 8-6 and Janet Durham and Sophie Fankam of Texas Tech 8-3 before claiming the trophy after Jessica Zok and Klara Zrustova of Baylor withdrew in the championship.
In singles, Novakova advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Irina Sotnikova of Sam Houston State, 6-3, 6-4. Novakova dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Vanja Corovic of Texas in the round of 16.
The men's team will complete the fall season at the Texas Invitational, Oct. 27-29.
