Final Stats
DALLAS, Texas - Despite a 7-0 run in the last three minutes of the game UT Arlington fell 67-64 to SMU Sunday at Moody Coliseum. Seniors Terra Wallace and Ashley Bobb led the Mavs (3-4) with 19 and 16 points respectively. Bobb recorded the double double with 16 boards.
Janielle Dodds led the Mustangs (5-2) with 19 points hitting 11-11 from the free throw line. Brittany Gilliam added 13 points for SMU.
Through out the first fifteen minutes of the game UTA stayed with in five of SMU, taking the lead twice in the opening five minutes. With five minutes left in the first half Erin Dixon hit 1-2 from the line to tie the score 23-23. The Mustangs then went on a 9-2 run to close out the first half with the 36-27 advantage.
SMU opened the second half with a 13-2 run to extend its lead to 13 (40-27) with 16:45 left in the game. Wallace sparked a Maverick 12-4 run to get UTA back with in six (47-41) with 12:09 left in the game. Over the next four minutes SMU increased its lead back to 11 (59-48). Bobb sparked the 7-0 run with three minutes left in the game to cut the Mustang lead to three with 18 seconds left, but UTA was unable to get the last second shot off.
UT Arlington will return to action on Wednesday at it travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. On Sunday UTA will be playing in Ft. Worth as it faces off with TCU at 2 p.m.
