BULLDOGS OFFENSE SENDS MAVS TO FIRST HOME LOSS

Feb. 10, 2007

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - Louisiana Tech's Brandon Hudson was the man of the hour on Saturday as he came out of the bullpen to shut down the UT Arlington offense, as well as go 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Bulldogs evened the series with the Mavericks with a 13-6 victory at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Bulldogs (2-3) got on the board in the first inning as Brian Rike delivered a one-out solo home run to right center.

UTA (1-2) answered back in the bottom of the inning as Collin Garner drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a groundout. After stealing third and a McLeod walk, Danny Slinkman blooped an RBI single into center to tie the game. A wild pitch advanced the runners and Matthew Otteman delivered a two-run single to right field.

LTU tied the game up in the third as Rike drew a one-out walk and scored on Jericho Jones' triple down the right-field line. Courtney Jones followed with an RBI groundout to third.

A two-out rally in the fifth inning helped the Bulldogs push across three runs in the inning. Hudson started things with a single through the left side, followed by an Albie Goulder base hit and a Chris Kersten RBI single. After a walk, Patrick Maxwell plated two runs with a double just inside the left-field line.

The Mavs got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Slinkman tripled to center field and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher later in the inning.

UTA pushed another run across in the eighth as Brock Wilson walked and went to third on a Daniel Rieder double. David McLeod plated the run with a groundout to third.

Jericho Jones closed out the scoring with a three-run homer to straight-away center field in the ninth.

Otteman led the Mavs offense by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Slinkman added a pair of hits and three runs scored.

Nathan Long (0-1) took the loss as he gave up three runs on five hits in two innings of relief. Hudson (1-0) took the victory by allowing two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings.

The Mavs and Bulldogs will play the rubber game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
