HUNSTVILLE, Texas - UT Arlington women's tennis lost 4-3 to Sam Houston State in Huntsville to move to 4-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in SLC matches.
The victory is Sam Houston's first ever over UTA in women's tennis. The Mavericks have won five of the last seven Southland Conference women's tennis titles and were the league's runner-up last season.
Ashley Longoria, a freshman from Rowlett, earned the decisive point for Sam Houston with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Sara Pesic at number six singles.
Daniela Novakova, Simri van Rooyen and Sofya Lifanova picked up UTA's three points in the two, three and four singles slots. Novakova remains perfect in single's play, winning 6-1 6-2 over Lata Assudani. van Rooyen battled 6-4 7-6 to win the Mavs second point of the match while Lifanova won easy 6-0 6-2 over Peta Taylor.
The Mavs will continue SLC action tomorrow at Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at 10 a.m.
