COWBOYS MAKE QUICK WORK OF MAVS

March 6, 2007

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington entered Tuesday's game against Oklahoma State in the midst of a two-game winning streak. They left Clay Gould Ballpark scratching their heads as the #16 Cowboys unleashed the Big 12's best offense on the Mavericks in a 19-1 defeat. It was the worst defeat for the Mavs since falling 21-2 to Northwestern State on March 21, 1998 and dropped UTA to 1-15 against the Big 12 since the start of the 2006 season.

The Cowboys (11-3) jumped out early as each of the first three guys reached on base hits, with only one leaving the infield. Tyler Mach drove in a run with a single to right field and Matt Mangini drove in the second run with a groundout. The Mavs thought they were out of the inning with their second straight strikeout, but a walk was called to score the third run and the fourth came in on a fielding error by the first baseman.

OSU added to its lead in the third inning as Rebel Ridling drove in a run with a ground ball through the left side and Kevin David and Matt Lopez delivered sacrifice flies to center field.

UTA (6-10) got a run back in the third as David Newby and Daniel Rieder singled and David McLeod walked to start the inning. The Mavs only managed one run on a Matthew Otteman sacrifice fly to center field.

The Pokes offense was back it again in the fourth inning as Mangini delivered an RBI single, another on a passed ball and two more on a Lopez double into the gap in right center.

Three more runs came across in the fifth as a throwing error by base hits from Ridling and David plated two runs.

OSU was the recipient of a bad hop in the sixth inning as a routine double-play ball took a bad hope over the shortstop and allowed a run to score.

Andy Sauter (0-1) took the loss as he gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in three innings of work. Joe Kent (2-0) picked up the victory after giving up one run on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.

Rieder, Newby and Masters each collected two hits in the loss.

The Mavs return to action as they begin a three-game series against Illinois on March 9-11. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.
