Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington's softball team announced its upcoming 2009 schedule that is highlighted with 16 home games, two tournaments including the UT Arlington Tournament.

The Mavs open the 2009 campaign in Orlando, FL at the University of Central Florida Tournament on Feb. 13-15, where they will match-up against Tennessee, host UCF, Bowling Green, George Mason, and South Carolina in the three-day event.

Sandwiched between tournaments is a match-up on the road against Big 12 opponent-University of Texas on Feb.17. Following the double-header, UT Arlington will enjoy time off from the road when they host their own tournament at the Allan Saxe Field on Feb. 20-22.

In day one of the UT Arlington tournament, the Mavs will face-off against University of Missouri-Kansas City, followed by a match-up with Houston Baptist on Saturday and the final game versus University of Tennessee at Martin on Sunday.

Conference action will begin in the confines of Allan Saxe Field, where the Mavericks will take-one Texas State in a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 24. The Mavs continue conference action with a series in Conway, Ark against Central Arkansas on Feb. 28 and a home series versus Nicholls State on Mar. 7.

UT Arlington will take a break from conference action with a single bout with Sun Belt foe-North Texas in Denton, Texas on Mar. 10 and again on Apr. 28 at home. A double-header against Prairie View A&M on Mar. 11 concludes non-conference play.

Conference play gets back in swing with a three-game series on the road against UTSA on Mar. 14 and a three-game match-up at home versus Northwestern State on Mar. 21.

Squeezed into the schedule is a solo game against Texas Tech on Mar. 25, the second Big 12 opponent UTA will face. Following the one-game match-up with the Red Raiders, the Mavs will head to Nacogdoches, Texas on Mar. 28, where they will take on last year's SLC champions, Stephen F. Austin in a three-game series.

The Mavs return back to their home field where they will face-off against Sam Houston State on Apr. 4. Following the home match-up, UT Arlington will travel to Lake Charles, La., where they will play McNeese State on Apr. 10.

UTA hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Apr. 18 and the Mavs conclude the regular season at Hammond, La, where they will take-on Southeastern Louisiana on May 2.

This season the Southland Conference Tournament will be held in Lake Charles, La. on May 7-9.

UT Arlington will look to make its 12th Southland Conference appearance under the helm of 13th year head softball coach Debbie Hedrick. The Mavs finished last season with a 27-22 overall record and a 20-10 mark in league play. UTA returns nine players and adds seven newcomers to the 2009 lineup.
