Arlington, Texas - Newcomer Katarina Micochova and Nikola Matovivoa led UT Arlington in the opening day of the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championship at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, collecting four singles' wins combined in the qualifying main draw singles.
Micochova, Matovivoa, Sara Pesic, Klara Jagosova, Itzel Manzanera and Monika Hadvigerova represented UTA in the tournament.
Micochova began round one with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over UTSA's Micaela Silva and notched a 6-0, 6-3 win against University of Houston's Vicky Simpson.
Matovivoa recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over UL-Lafayette's Milou Israel and handed Lange of Northwestern State a 6-2, 2-6 and 6-3 setback.
Senior Pesic dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Joanna Kacprzyk of University of Houston and fell to UL-Lafayette's Marina Ruiz De Guana by scores of 7-6, 6-0.
Manzanera suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback against Narine Kazarova of University of North Texas and dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision over SMU's Casey Kennedy.
In doubles' action, duo Hadvigerova and Jagosova suffered an 8-5 loss over UTEP's Weronika Bloczynska and Martina Trierweiler.
Day two will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Forth Worth, Texas.
