ARLINGTON - - The UT Arlington baseball team fell behind by six runs in the first inning and couldn't recover in a 12-6 loss Tuesday night against Houston Baptist at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Huskies (9-9) knocked Mavericks starter Matt Dunn out of the game with one out in the first inning, then tacked on three runs in the seventh when UTA (5-10) mounted a comeback. Dunn (1-1) took the loss. Houston Baptist starter Matthew Headley (2-1) kept UTA hitters off balance for five inning for the victory.
UTA senior first baseman David McLeod went 2-for-3, and third baseman Evan Raley went 1-for-3 with two walks to lead the Mavericks offense. But UTA pitchers were tagged for 14 hits and allowed free passes to seven batters.
The Huskies took advantage, taking an 8-2 lead in the fourth.
UTA scored three in the fifth, but the Huskies answered quickly and coasted the rest of the way.
The Mavericks return to action at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Lamar University in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
