ARLINGTON - - Five Oral Roberts pitchers combined to give up four hits as the Golden Eagles defeated UT Arlington, 10-1, on Saturday in the first of two games for UTA at the 15th Annual UT Arlington-Hilton Invitational. UTA seniors David McLeod and Danny Slinkman continued to hit the ball well, collecting a hit apiece at Clay Gould Ballpark.
But starter Mark Serrano and first reliever Carlon Luna (2-0) struck out six batters and allowed just two walks and one earned run through six innings for the Golden Eagles (8-1), who were handed their only loss this season a day earlier by Dallas Baptist.
Mavericks starter Andy Sauter (0-1) took the loss after allowing six hits and three earned runs through 42/3 innings.
Golden Eagles second baseman Juan Martinez did most of the damage, going 2-for-4 with a run and three runs batted in.
In the nightcap against Dallas Baptist, the Mavericks (5-9) were hurt by a six-run sixth inning as the Patriots defeated UTA, 7-1.
Designated hitter Steffan Guest went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Preston McCoy had three hits in three at-bats against the Patriots (9-3). Ryan Robinson (1-2) took the loss after allowing four earned runs on eight hits through 52/3 innings.
UTA returns to Clay Gould Ballpark for a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday against Houston Baptist.
