Arlington, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington women's tennis team will compete in their first tournament of the fall season when they travel to Denton, Texas for the Mean Green Invitational set to begin Friday, Sept. 12-14.
Joining UTA this weekend will be North Texas, SMU, Texas Tech, Army, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, St. Edwards, Abilene Christian, and Lee College.
The new season returns four of UTA's top performers in senior Sara Pesic, junior Klara Jagosova, sophomores Daiana Negreanu and Monika Hadvigerova.
Pesic is coming off a strong 2007-08 campaign, as she recorded 14 total wins, including eight victories in doubles' competition and a 5-6 record in league play in singles' action.
Four new faces will get a taste of division one action as Itzel Manzanera, Nicola Matovicova, Katarina Micochova and Ayram Edery will step on the court for their first collegiate match.
The women finished last season with a 7-12 overall record and a 6-5 record in league play.
The Mean Green Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and run through Sunday. If the weather persists, the location of the tournament will be moved to an indoor facility in Las Colinas.
