
MAVERICKS NOTCH 76-65 ROAD VICTORY OVER STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

Nacogdoches, Texas - The UT Arlington Mavericks battled their way to a 76-65 road victory against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, January 21 at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The win improved the Mavs to 8-9 on the season, 3-1 in league play and was the seventh consecutive victory against the Lady Jacks.
Meghan Nelson led UTA with a season high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, including 1-of-1 from behind the arc and 2-of-4 from the free throw line.
UTA trailed almost the entire first half until a three-pointer by Nelson tied the game at 32-32 with 4:45 on the clock. Stephen F. Austin tied the game two more time but the Mavericks were able to hang on for a 42-38 halftime lead.
Nelson scored 15 of her game high 23 points in the field half while Erin Dixon brought down seven boards.
The Lady Jacks came as close as one point at the 16:09 mark but UTA was unstoppable, as the Mavs led by as many as nine points following two made free throws by Candice Champion with 12:08 remaining in the second half.
Ebony Alexandra brought Stephen F. Austin within four points at 67-63 with 2:41 on the clock but the Mavericks continued to hit buckets, rolling to an 11 point advantage to end the game.
Champion recorded 22 points while Shalyn Martin finished with 13 points and Tamara Simmons chipped in with 11.
The Mavs finished shooting 52.8 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the charity stripe.
Natashia Green recorded 18 points and Tammara Marion collected 12 points for the Lady Jacks.
The Mavericks return back to Texas Hall for a match-up against Sam Houston State on Saturday, January 24, with game time set for 4 p.m.
