Cape Girardeau, MO. - With eight days of rest, the UT Arlington Mavericks were well rested and ready to face the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. UTA rolled to a 66-54 win Saturday night. UTA improved to 4-4 overall while SEMO fell to 3-6 on the season.
Meghan Nelson led the Mavs with a game high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
After four ties in the first half, UT Arlington used good ball movement to take a 23-21 advantage at the 8:54 mark. Nelson's 12 first half points led the Mavs to a 35-31 lead heading into the locker rooms.
In the first half, UTA shot 56.5 percent from the field compared to the Redhawks 40 percent.
If the Mavericks weren't fired enough in the first stanza, they came out with even more energy in the second.
UT Arlington didn't allow SEMO to score a basket until the 14:10 mark following a layup by Bianca Beck. The Mavericks took control of the game leading by as many as 20 points at the 2:59 mark.
All but two Mavericks recorded buckets and UTA dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Redhawks, 48-35.
Shalyn Martin recorded her third double-double of the season with an 11-point, 11-rebound performance.
Up next for the Mavs is a matchup at Arkansas State on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:05 p.m.
