MONIKA HADVIGEROVA EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore Monika Hadvigerova has been named the Southland Conference's women's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Hadvigerova, who improved to 3-0 in singles play this season, as she becomes the first member of the Mavericks to receive the weekly honor in 2009.

A native of Bratislava, Slovakia, Hadvigerova notched UT Arlington's lone win in singles play against the Owls last Saturday when she rallied from a second-set defeat to upend Rice's No. 1 Julie Chai 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

Honorable mention for this week's women's award goes to Sam Houston State senior Paty Manzur, Southeastern Louisiana senior Iva Velkovska, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Erika Iriarte and UTSA senior Nathalie Wallin. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.

Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
