Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to SMU on Sunday, February 15 at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavericks fell to 3-2 overall while the Mustangs improved to 9-1 on the season.
UT Arlington faced a tough SMU squad which had only suffered one setback prior to facing the Mavericks and that was to #23 LSU. The Mustangs were on an eight game win streak.
The Mavs dropped the doubles' point and all six matches in singles play. Nikola Matovivoa and Klara Jagosova lost an 8-5 decision to Natalia Bubien and Pavi Francis in the No. 1 position while Daiana Negreanu and Maria Martinez-Romer fell to Kseniia Tokarieva and Nicole Briceno by a final score of 8-6 in the No. 2 spot.
Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Mlcochova suffered a 8-4 setback against Kristen Reid and Monica Neveklovska in the No. 3.
In singles' action, Hadvigerova took her match to three sets but dropped a 6-3, 6-7 and 10-7 decision to Bubien in the No. 1 position while Negreanu also went into three sets and was the last match to be completed. Negreanu suffered a hard-fought 7-6, 6-7 and 11-6 setback against Francis in the No. 2 spot.
Jagosova lost her match by a final score of 6-2, 6-2 to Reid in the No. 3 position while Mlcochova went into three sets but fell 6-4, 2-6, and 6-4 against Briceno in the No. 4 spot.
Martinez-Romer dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision against Neveklovska in the No. 5 position while Matovivoa lost a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Tokarieva in the No. 6 spot.
UTA hits the road for a match with Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark on Saturday, February 28. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
