WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS SFA EASILY, 7-0

March 30, 2009

Nacogdoches, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis squad finished last week with a 2-0 conference record recording back-to-back wins. The Mavericks posted a 7-0 win over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, March 29 in Nacogdoches, Texas. UTA improved to 10-6 overall and 7-0 in league action.

"It's very nice to bounce back from a difficult trip in California and get two conference wins on the road," said assistant men's and women's tennis coach Younes Limam. "It shows again how mentally tough the girls are and how we've improved in the doubles. Hopefully we will keep getting better as the season goes on."

After winning a Saturday match at Sam Houston State, UT Arlington traveled to Stephen F. Austin on Sunday where they continued to take care of business, collecting all three doubles and all six singles matches.

"We spent a great deal of time practicing our doubles play during this past week and all the hard work paid off taking both points during this weekend matches," said head men's and women's coach Diego Benitez. "Playing two conference matches back-to-back on the road is always tough, but our girls are focused on the objective and are playing hard."

Daiana Negreanu and Klara Jagosova led off doubles action with a 7-6 (5) win over Roxana Enica and Alina Shazkho while Maria Martinez-Romer and Nikola Matovicova recorded a 8-2 win over Jamie Williams and Mary Harrison in the No. 2 position.

Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Mlcochova wrapped up doubles action with an 8-2 victory against Gabriela Gadeva and Sanjana Kapur in the No. 3 spot in the lineup.

Just like they did in doubles action, the Mavericks breezed by the Lady Jacks in all six singles matches.

Hadvigerova handed Shazkho a three-set loss, with scores of 5-7, 6-4 and 10-7 in the No. 1 position while Jagosova notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kapur in the No. 2 spot.

Mlcochova recorded a 4-1, ret win over Enica in the No. 3 position while Martinez-Romer improved her win streak to 12 games after collecting a 6-3, 4-6 and 10-7 victory over Gadeva in the No. 4 spot.

Matovicova won her match over Andreea Enica, by scores of 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 position while Itzel Manzanera wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Williams in the No. 6 spot in the rotation.

The Mavericks take-on SE Louisiana in Hammond, La. on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. followed by a match on Sunday with Nicholls State.
