Austin, Texas - UT Arlington dropped an 84-41 decision against No. 17 Texas Tuesday night at the Erwin Center. The Mavs fell to 5-8 on the season while the Longhorns improved to 11-3.
After two consecutive steals and layups by the Mavericks, Texas went on an 18-0 run to lead 15-4 at the first media timeout. UT Arlington went cold, falling behind 26-9 with 10:16 in the first half.
The Mavs headed into the locker rooms down 47-16. They finished the first half shooting 19.4 percent from the floor compared to the Longhorn's 52.9 percent.
UTA continued to struggle offensively in the second half, as Texas ran away with the game. UTA finished the game shooting 24.6 percent from the field to the Longhorns 46.3 percent. The Mavs were out-rebounded by a 54-35 margin.
Meghan Nelson led the Mavericks with 14 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, including 2-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Shalyn Martin sat out today's game due to a broken finger. She will be back on the court on Saturday for the Mavs conference opener at Texas State.
