
Mavs fall on the road to Houston

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington women's basketball dropped an 88-48 decision on the road to University of Houston at the Hofheinz Pavilion Sunday evening.
The setback dropped the Mavs to 0-2 while the Cougars earned their first win of the season.
The Mavericks struggled to find their offense in the opening minutes of the first half, falling behind 16-5 after a three ball by Brittany Scott at the 8:53 mark.
UTA went on a run in the next two minutes cutting into the Cougars lead, 21-16. The Mavs continued to struggle offensively, trailing 43-20 heading into the locker rooms.
UT Arlington shot just 21.9 percent from the field and committed 13 first half turnovers.
The Mavs offensive woes proceeded in the second half, trailing by as many as 35. UTA was also unable to control its turnovers, committing a total of 30 en route to 32 points for the Cougars.
Tamara Simmons shooting spree came late in the second half as she connected on 14 of her 20 points in the final nine minutes.
Shalyn Martin and Jasmine Smith were forced to play limited minutes due to foul trouble.
For the game, UTA finished shooting 27.3 percent from the field to the Cougar's 36.4 percent.
Up next for the Mavs is a meeting over UMKC at Kansas City, MO. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
