Despite 12 first half turnovers by the Mavericks, Meghan Nelson guided her team to a 43-32 halftime advantage with her 19 points. The Lions managed to tie the game twice but UTA buckled down in the final minutes.
UT Arlington finished the first half shooting 64 percent from the floor compared to the Lions' 37.5 percent.
UTA opened the second half with a tough full court press which forced the Lions to turn the ball over, giving the Mavericks a 55-39 advantage with 15:35 remaining.

With the Mavericks holding onto a six points lead with 1:07 remaining, the Lions were forced to foul in order to regain possession. Mergerson was clutch at the line making all four free throws.
