The Texas and McMurray Relays have come to a close

April 3, 2010

ARLINGTON, Texas - Although the whole track and field team did not participate in an event this week, there were some standout performances from those that did.

The Texas Relays bring in the best athletes from across the nation annually. This year was no different. Cordero Gray and Megan Turner were the standouts from UTA at the Texas Relays.

Turner turned it up a notch and shaved almost a full second off of her previous personal best which was achieved at the Relays earlier in the week. Turner's new personal best in the 400 meter hurdles is 1:01.86.

Sophomore Doxie Thompson finished a few second behind Turner with a time of 1:04.60.

Gray ran against some of the fastest 100 meter dash athletes in the country and came out in third place. Gray finished with a time of 10.28 and was only two hundredths of a second from matching his personal best.

The men's 4x100 relay team came away with fifth place, placing behind API, TG Elite, Houston and Texas Tech.

The Mavericks also had three athletes run well in the 1500 meter run, but that is nothing new. Caroline Erlingson (4:36.22), Amanda McMahon (4:36.38) for the women and Ozie Hood (3:52.58) for the men all finished within the top seven for their respective runs. Hood finished second overall for the men.

Not all the athletes were able to attend the Texas Relays and those that competed in the McMurray Relays also posted good marks.

Lauren Marks and Sammy Nash finished in a tie for fifth place in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.21 meters.

Along with Marks and Nash, Wade Hayes and Cory Carswell competed in the event for the men. Hayes came back strong after not placing at the Bobby Lane Invitational a week before by finishing first overall with a height of 5.08 meters. Carswell came in tied for seventh with a height of 4.58 meters.

Next up for the Mavericks is another in-state meet in Denton, Texas. The Mavs should have their full complement of athletes for the North Texas Classic.
