The UT Arlington Mavericks will have just a few short hours to celebrate their 97-64 victory Tuesday over North Texas as they hit the road for the first time this season as they play at nationally-ranked Baylor on Wednesday.
UTA used an impressive display of offensive firepower and defensive intensity to win the game Tuesday. The Mavericks were leading 11-6 early in the game before going on a 32-0 run to take control of the game. UTA also forced UNT into 19 turnovers in the first half, which helped the Mavs lead at one time 43-6 when the run was over.
The Mavericks enter Wednesday's game against the Bears 3-0 for the first time since 2007-08, when they started the season with a school record eight consecutive wins. This is also the fifth time in school history UTA has won its first three games of the season. UTA is the only undefeated team in the Southland Conference.
The Baylor game will also mark the first time the Mavs will play on consecutive days since December of 2009 when they played in a tournament at Drake.
The Mavs are averaging 88.0 ppg and 48.0 rpg coming into the game. They have also shot better than 50% twice this season after doing so just three times last year.
Bo Ingram and Kevin Butler lead the Mavericks with a scoring average of 12.7 points per game. Brandon Edwards leads the team in rebounding at 9.0 after pulling down a career-high 13 against UNT.
Quincy Miller leads four Baylor players who score in double figures at 14.8 points per game. The Bears also played Tuesday night as they defeated South Carolina State 70-50 in Waco.
