
Women's hoops suffer loss to Western Michigan

Long Beach, Calif. - UT Arlington drops to 1-7 on the season after a close 67-63 loss to Western Michigan Monday at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif.
The Mavericks defense caused several turnovers throughout the game, but Western Michigan came away with the win.
With Western Michigan leading, senior Bianca Sauls hit a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 31 with 3:24 left to go in the first half.
"Bianca is a fighter, she's a competitor and I appreciate that she does that," said head coach Samantha Morrow.
At the end of the first half sophomore Malaika Green was 3-4 from beyond the arc with 11 points while also grabbing four rebounds.
Western Michigan was able to grab 11 points off of rebounds giving them a 4-point lead at the end of the first half, 39-35 in the consolation game of the Beach Classic.
UT Arlington took the lead in the second half after a pair of jump shots from Bianca Saul, making the score 44-42
"I thought we did some good this offensively and we created a little havoc defensively," said Morrow. "We're starting to come together more and gel more."
The Mavericks lead 61-60 with 2:11 left to play in the game, but were unable to maintain the lead.
The lead changed 14 times between the two teams and the score was tied nine times throughout the course of the game.
Malaika Green led the team with 14 points, also a season high for Green.
The Mavericks play again Wednesday when they travel to Edinburg, Texas to take on the UT Pan American Broncs. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
