Arlington, Texas - The No. 63 Mavericks remained perfect in conference action Saturday afternoon after winning an easy 6-1 decision against McNeese State at the UTA Tennis Center. The victory improved the Mavericks to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Southland play.
UTA recorded wins in all three doubles matches and in five of six singles flights. In three conference matches this season, the Mavs have only allowed two points.
In doubles action, Daiana Negreanu and Linda Aqvist handed Ralitsa Pirdopska and Ilona Serchenko an 8-4 loss in the top spot while Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova recorded an 8-3 win against Kwynn Biggs and Maria Frausto in the No. 2 position. The duo have won four straight.
Giada D'ortona and Natalia Mayuk collected an easy 8-0 victory in the No. 3 position against Tea Tvrtkovic and Anastasio Surkova.
UTA moved to singles action with a 1-0 lead against the Cowgirls and collected wins in the No.1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 flights for a 6-1 win.
In the top flight, Negreanu scored a three set win over Serchenko, 2-6, 6-3, and 10-2 while Aqvist defeated Pirdopska in the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-4.
Martinez-Romero remains perfect in singles action, improving her overall record to 9-0. The junior recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win against Tvrtkovic in the No. 3 position.
In the No.4 flight, Mayuk handed Surkova a 6-1, 6-2 loss while Katarina Mlocochova dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Biggs in the No. 5 position.
D'ortona won her fourth straight against Frausto, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 flight. The Mavericks will have little time to rest as they host Lamar University tomorrow at the UTA Tennis Courts. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
